Spectacular Christmas tree puts the sparkle into Lion Yard!

15th November 2009

On Sunday 15th November Lion Yard Shopping Centre will be transformed for the festive season by a breathtaking Christmas tree and decorations when the Christmas lights are switched on! The tree and decorations which are new this year are traditional with a modern twist.

The magical tree that will form the centre piece for the Centre this Christmas has robins nesting in its branches, icicles, lights and plenty of shimmer and sparkle. Some of the robins that are in the branches have flown from the tree and are nestled around the Centre. Shoppers are being invited to ‘Spot the Robin’ for their chance to win 4 tickets to see Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, starring Craig Chalmers from BBC1’s ‘Any Dream Will Do’, at The Cambridge Corn Exchange this December.

From 1pm until 6pm a variety of fantastic local talent will be appearing at various places around the Shopping Centre, including:

  • Sky Blue Theatre Company
  • Coleridge & Manor Samba Bands
  • Bourn school orchestra
  • CU Revelation Rock Gospel Choir
  • The Pink Panther Cheerleading Squad
  • Carol Goodwin Belly Dancers

And many more!

Laurie Cripps, Lion Yard Centre Manager, said: “The Christmas tree will be a fabulous addition as it is fantastically eye catching and will form the perfect centre piece for the Centre this festive season. We are thrilled to be welcoming so many local groups into the Centre for the Christmas light switch on. The whole day will be fantastic for the local community and Lion Yard is proud to be at the very heart of it.”
